Salma is an Associate at Shahid Law Firm in the International Business and Dispute Resolution Departments. She specializes in complex and high-stakes disputes settlement, with a focus on commercial arbitration, investment treaty arbitration and construction arbitration before several arbitral institutions, to name a few, ICSID, CRCICA, ICC and DIAC. Salma also handles complex litigation matters before the Egyptian Courts. She has expertise in international and commercial law, and a fair knowledge of general corporate matters and energy-related transactions.

Salma focuses on complex dispute resolution. She has acted for leading multinational companies and organizations in different industries – including in the finance, telecommunications, transportation, pharmaceuticals, and energy industries – helping them setting precedent judgements and arbitration awards in Egypt. Salma has also expertise in corporate and M&A and has successfully represented several international companies in conducting complex due diligence. Salma has also experience in the oil, gas and renewables industries.

  • Successfully advising on one a multimillion acquisition of one of the major energy and petrochemicals group of companies.
  • Advising on an insurance claim related to a price adjustment dispute between a major French- Egyptian JV and Egyptian governmental authority in relation to a Design and Construction Contract.
  • Advising a major South Korean rolling stock manufacturer on the quantity adjustment of a Manufacture and Supply Agreement concluded with an Egyptian governmental authority.
  • Advising a major South Korean rolling stock manufacturer on a custom taxes dispute in relation to a Manufacture and Supply Agreement concluded an Egyptian governmental authority.
  • Advising a major Egyptian transportation company on the quantity adjustment of a Supply Agreement.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Representing a German investor, in an arbitration case before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, against the Arab Republic of Egypt. The dispute relates to the distortion of the cement market in Egypt, and unfair competition by state-owned enterprises.
  • Successfully represented a well renowned Lebanese media and telecommunication company, in an arbitration case before the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration, filed against two Egyptian media companies. The matter revolves around a dispute arising out of the breach of a Production, Broadcasting and Exploitation of one of Egypt’s most famous TV programs.
  • Representing a leading Saudi Investor in two arbitration cases filed before the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration, against one of the major listed Egyptian conglomerates providing financial services in the region. The dispute relates to a series of major cross-border transactions, involving the acquisition of shares and debt equity agreements.
  • Successfully represented a leading South-Korean construction company in the settlement of a long- running dispute arising from a port container facility project that resulted in three arbitration cases before the International Chamber of Commerce. The settlement involved a Kuwaiti conglomerate and major Egyptian public entities and Egyptian construction companies.
  • Successfully represented a Finish Investor in the settlement of a treaty award issued against the Arab Republic of Egypt. The dispute related to several alleged breaches under the Egypt-Finland BIT.
  • Representing an individual (buyer) in a Dubai International Arbitration Centre arbitration case against an Emirati real-estate company (seller) in relation to the breach of a Residential Unit Sale and purchase agreement.
  • Representing one of the lead US based companies specializing in agricultural bio stimulants and fertilizers, in relation to several IP disputes before Egyptian courts.
  • Representing a major Chinese geophysical company before the Egyptian courts in a lawsuit involving several breaches of a series of agency agreements by its Egyptian agent.
  • Representing one of the most renowned international charity institutions for alleged breaches committed thereby before Egyptian courts. The lawsuit was filed by one of its former employees.
  • Representing a Saudi subcontractor in an arbitration before the International Chamber of Commerce against a Saudi main contractor related to a project owned by a worldwide renowned petroleum refineries company. The total value of the works assigned to the subcontractor amounts to hundreds of millions Saudi Riyals.

Salma holds a Master in Arbitration and International Trade Law from University of Versailles Paris- Saclay, France and two LL.B. from Cairo University, Egypt and Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne, France. Salma is admitted to the Egyptian Bar since 2019.
