Rasha Maurice is a Partner at Shahid Law Firm, where she has been at the helm of the Employment Regulatory Group since 2007. With a deep specialization in Egyptian labor and social insurance legislation, Rasha provides invaluable guidance to commercial entities operating in Egypt.

Her extensive experience encompasses advising corporations on a wide range of labor-related matters, ensuring that their employment practices comply with current regulations. Rasha excels in drafting and reviewing employment contracts tailored to the needs of her clients, as well as developing and enhancing internal work policies and procedures that foster a compliant and productive workplace environment.

A crucial aspect of Rasha’s role involves leading negotiations with employees, particularly in sensitive contexts such as layoffs, where her strategic approach aims to balance the interests of both the employer and employees. She addresses a variety of day-to-day HR legal queries, providing timely and practical advice to help clients navigate complex labor issues.

Rasha maintains strong relationships with governmental authorities, which enables her to effectively secure exceptional approvals for expatriate work permits, a critical need for many multinational corporations. She is also instrumental in settling commercial entities’ outstanding dues with the Social Insurance Authority, ensuring that her clients remain compliant and avoid potential penalties.

  • Advised Aramex on the Employees’ Profit sharing in light of the current applicable mechanism for distributing the employees’ tranche (10%) adopted by the Company and assisted Aramex in drafting its Profit Share Procedures to be in alignment with the provisions of the Egyptian Laws.
  • Advised Air Liquide on the various aspects of employees’ legal entitlement to a share in the profits of Egyptian corporations, as well as the current applicable mechanism for distributing the employees’ share of the profits currently adopted by Air Liquide five legal entities in Egypt.
  • Represented IEOC, a subsidiary of ENI, in the arbitration case filed by its employees on the grounds of laws and regulations applicable to employees’ profit-sharing schemes in general and in the oil and gas field in particular and filing challenges before the Egyptian Constitutional Court.
  • Advised GlaxoSmithKline on complex legal labour matters including carrying out and heading a series of administrative investigations for one of its local sales team for violating certain applicable rules and procedures and the applicability of their performance appraisal policies in accordance with the provisions of the Egyptian Labour Law.
  • Provided AstraZeneca with a comprehensive overview of the Egyptian Labor Law and the possibility to change its long-standing Car Policy, which is deemed an acquired right to its employees and having it replaced by a Car allowance.
  • Advised Nokia on employee secondment under Egyptian law and carried out and heading a series of administrative investigations for one of its employees for committing one of the violations regulated by Article 69 of the Egyptian Labour Law and successfully obtaining a termination by virtue of a court order.
  • Represented Roche, TTEC, Turkish Airlines, Ariston and SWR on day-to-day employment matters including drafting of employment contracts, executing staff members’ termination and handling social insurance matters as well as the exceptional statutory measures to be undertaken by employers as a result of COVID-19 and the mechanism of applying these measures on their employees.
  • Advised Younexa Egypt on complex labour matters including which heading the negotiations with the General Union of Chemical Workers and successfully concluding a Collective Bargaining Agreement and executing staff members’ termination.
  • Obtained an exceptional approval for the 9:1 rule for 300 expats for ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions.

Rasha holds an LL.B. from Ain Shams University. She is also member of British Egyptian Business Association (BEBA) and The German Chamber of Commerce.
