Furthermore, we assisted Icon Company in acquiring Egypt’s seven most prestigious hotels, overseeing contract transfers and assignments with management companies for a smooth transition to the new owner

  • Advising the international Sonesta Collection on several matters, including drafting and reviewing several management agreements, advising on legal action to take following the attempted breach of a management agreement by a hotel owner in Sharm El-Sheikh, and advising on regulatory and compliance matters.
  • Advising Qatari Diar with respect to all its development projects in Egypt (Nile Corniche, Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh, New Giza, and Barwa).
  • Advising a major Egyptian-Saudi Company in its development of the Nile City residential and commercial apartments and hotel project.
  • Representing international 5-star hotel operators in matters involving various governmental authorities (e.g., Ministry of Tourism, the Supreme Council of Antiquities and others).
  • Advising a Saudi company in its development of the City Stars residential commercial apartments and hotel project in Cairo.
  • Representing a five-star hotel operator in relation to a tax dispute. The Firm succeeded in resolving the dispute with the Tax Authority before the matter reached court.
  • Representing Soma Bay Group of Companies in various arbitrations (five cases) against Kajima Corporation (all arbitrations were amicably settled through the efforts of our firm).
  • Assisting a hotel owner in obtaining a favorable arbitral award in a dispute over the termination of a management agreement in which damages claimed against our client exceed USD 10 million.
  • Representing a hotel operator in its dispute with the owner in an arbitration regulated by the ICC arbitration rules.
  • Representing a major US publicly listed real estate group following the acquisition of a chain of hotels in Egypt.
  • Advising several insurance companies during proceedings brought against international hotels (the Insured) for an injury caused to guests.
  • Advising the Egyptian General Co. For Tourism and Hotels (EGOTH) in its negotiation and eventual execution of EGP 1.4 billion co-development and financing agreement with the Saudi Al-Sharif Group Holding for the development of the historic Shepheard Hotel, bringing back to life one of Egypt’s iconic hotels following the suspension of its operations in 2013.
  • Representing International Air Transport Association (IATA) in the dispute filed by Metro Tourism requesting review of accounts associated with the issuance of air travel tickets, which Metro defaulted in payment.
  • Advising several hotel owners on finance and debt-restructuring matters.
  • Upon the insurers’ instructions, representing a major world five-star hotel chain during oral proceedings in relation to a drowning accident in the hotel’s swimming pool.
  • Advising Eagle Hills Development on the acquisition and co-development of several of its projects in Egypt, along with its partnering with other major regional real estate companies in the development of a mega-residential project in the North Coast.
